FAQs

How much does the meal plan cost?

The membership meal plan, which is required for all students living in campus housing in the 2023-24 academic year, will be $1900 per semester. Commuters may purchase the optional commuter membership meal plan for $1200 per semester.

Why is the membership meal plan more expensive than the current meal plan options?

We’re confident that students will get so much more value out of the new plan. We heard from so many of our students who are currently going off campus every day to get coffee, breakfast, snacks, and meals. With Dunkin and Einstein included in the “all you care to eat” membership plan, plus the increased variety and improved quality at all our dining locations, students will be able to get more of what they need (and want!) right on campus and can cut down on their spending off campus. The price of the membership meal plan works out to be about $17/day for unlimited swipes and all your student cares to eat. We remain committed to keeping our meal plan as affordable as possible for our students, even as we factor in the rising cost of food that we’ve seen on a national level. We do have a scholarship fund to support students who need financial assistance with the meal plan; your student can email careteam@snhu.edu to learn more.

What if I can’t afford the new meal plans?

ADC and SNHU are committed to keeping our dining options accessible and affordable for SNHU students and employees. A fund will be set aside to help support those who need financial assistance with the meal plan. Individuals who find themselves food-insecure are encouraged to submit a CARE referral to potentially qualify for a meal plan scholarship.

Can I share my meal plan with another student and/or buy food for others?

No. Meal plans are designed for use by a single person. Guests to campus or students without a meal plan may purchase meals or other items as desired using cash or credit card at one of the registers.

How are Dining Dollars different from Penmen Cash?

Dining Dollars: Students with a Membership Meal Plan have a certain amount of Dining Dollars included with their plan. Dining Dollars are used for items not included in the “all you care to eat” model such as bottled beverages and pre-packaged snacks available in the grab-and-go retail locations. Dining Dollars cannot be replenished. Students should use Penmen Cash if they need additional funds.Penmen Cash: Penmen Cash is a reloadable account available for all SNHU students, faculty, and staff. For dining purposes, Penmen Cash is usually used by individuals without a meal plan or for retail items if Dining Dollars run out. Penmen Cash can be used to purchase anything in any SNHU Dining location and the SNHU Bookstore. Additional funds can be added using the GET App (hyperlink to https://get.cbord.com/snhu/full/guest_deposit.php).

I live in an apartment on campus and prefer to cook most of my own meals. Do I have to be part of the membership plan?

Yes, all students living in campus housing are required to purchase the membership meal plan.

What do I do if I have a food quality concern?

ADC values feedback and is always open to suggestions. Please leave your feedback here: https://snhudining.com/contact/

Will I have access to a dietician or other food education resources?

Yes. A nutritionist will be on staff and will provide all the resources needed. Our Chefs create menu concepts to be inclusive of all food allergens and culinary lifestyle choices. Whether you are gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, vegetarian, nut-free, and/or religious/ethnic requirements, there will be food options available.  At SNHU, we strive to create food that is inclusive to all. If a student has a food allergy or culinary lifestyle choice and needs assistance, our culinary team will work with that individual to solve the problem.

Will there still be to-go containers in the Dining Center?

Yes, ADC has an eco-container program which provides eco-friendly to-go containers for students, faculty, and staff.

Can I make suggestions for our new dining services provider?

ADC values feedback and is always open to suggestions. Please leave your feedback here: https://snhudining.com/contact/

Will I still have Penmen Cash? How will it work?

Yes. Penmen Cash may be added through the GET app if students run out of Dining Dollars. Penmen Cash is also accepted at the campus bookstore.

Is this an “all you care to eat” meal plan, even at the Dunkin’ and Einstein Bros.?

Yes. We know students go off campus to purchase Dunkin’ and other food items, and we hope that the new membership meal plan will give you access to more of the food you want and need, conveniently located right on campus and at no additional cost.

I’m a commuter but I’m on campus a lot – can I buy the $1900 membership meal plan?

Yes, commuter students also have the option to purchase the Resident Membership Meal Plan if they anticipate being on campus for longer periods of time. Anyone can also use cash or credit to purchase meals or food from any of the campus dining sites.

Are there employment opportunities with ADC available for students?

Employment opportunities will be available with dining services team. Students can check the website  at https://snhudining.com/culinary-philosophy/#joinOurTeam  for all available positions, and as always, SNHU will hold a student employment job fair in the fall.

How will we limit food waste with this new “all your care to eat” model?

Community members are encouraged to take only what they will eat. SNHU will work with ADC to educate the community on food waste as we all become more comfortable with this new meal plan structure.

What is the cost of meals for anyone without a meal plan?

Anyone without a meal plan can access the dining center by purchasing a meal with the pricing structure below:

$10/breakfast

$14/lunch

$15/dinner

How is access to the dining hall changing?

Given the “all you care to eat” nature of the Membership Meal Plan, individuals will only be able to access the first floor of the Dining Center if they swipe their ID (cash and card will also be accepted).
